Dear Madam/ Sir,

Thank you for participating in the FDPI (Flood Disaster Preparedness Indices) survey. This website has been established by ICHARM (International Centre for Water Hazard and Risk Management under the auspices of UNESCO) of PWRI (Public Works Research Institute) in Japan as an upgraded version based on our previous research conducted as part of the activities of the Typhoon Committee, an organization under the joint auspices of WMO (World Meteorological Organization) and UNESCAP (United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia Pacific).

FDPI has been developed to be used mainly by disaster management officers in each community for self-evaluation of communities’ flood disaster preparedness. By using this website, you can objectively evaluate your community to find out what should be improved precisely and thus what support needs to be received from other organizations. Accumulated results would also become a useful resource for countries around the world to strengthen their flood disaster preparedness.

The following questions concern disaster management in your community. Please read each question and choose one of the five possible answers that you think best represents the case of your community. We hope that FDPI will be useful and effective to increase flood disaster preparedness of your community.

If you have any questions about this website, please feel free to contact us.

(We would like to assure you that all responses will be completely confidential. The results of this survey will be reported only in aggregate form, and you and your community will not be identified from the data without your permission.)

Sincerely yours,
ICHARM members
